I got to spend quite a bit of time with family this month – celebrating Abram’s 5th birthday and my niece’s 11th. The years fly by so fast. It seems like just yesterday my niece was the bitty baby. The family has since added three more and this chubby bunny nephew of mine grows in leaps and bounds between visits. His laugh is out of this world.
We’ve been busy with pool days, and movie nights, cabin adventures, and tick checks (between the mosquitos and the ticks this year, I’m completely bugged out).
I’m healing. I get to wear cross trainers (think New Balance velcro shoes) with orthotic inserts or birkenstocks for up to two hours a day. And every pain free week I get to add two more hours. My doctor says that it’ll be year before I’m back in “cute” shoes but progress is progress and this is progress. As is accepting that I don’t get to be in control of everything. Surprisingly enough: the world will not end if the lawn isn’t mowed (though I still hide my head in shame when the neighbor is out mowing his) and asking for help does get easier (but not by much).
I’m still watching an overabundance of television (devoured the 3rd season of Scandal in about three days) and knitting (only two more inches left on the sweater I’m making for my mom) but have spent less time blog reading and social media-ing. I haven’t been instagramming at all. I dropped my phone and broke it into little pieces. Not eligible for an upgrade and without insurance, I’m using a loner that isn’t nearly as nice. I miss it, but I don’t.
It’s summer. And like the years – it seems to go too fast. I want to soak up every single moment of it before my two babies and I head back to school in the fall.
