Fat Tuesday Things

via
If you’re going to celebrate Fat Tuesday, I think the best way is with some amazing Polish pastry.  I’m glad paczki really only make an appearance before Lent because so good.
I’m really struggling with how I want to observe Lent this year.  Last year I decided I would go gluten free (fail), the year before that I swore off sugar (fail), and the year before that I said I’d pray the rosary every day (fail).  Basically, it’s really good the salvation of mankind isn’t dependent on me resisting the devil in the desert.  One of the things I keep coming back to is taking this time to really focus on living my life in His service but that seems so…open ended?  Hard?  Something I should already be doing?
Maybe TV?  I just can’t seem to get into this season of The Walking Dead. It’s getting gorier and gorier and holding my interest less and less.  I’ve been out since they killed off Beth and no one else sounds too impressed with it either, so I’m just staying gone. However, I can not wait for House of Cards to start.  I don’t think I’ve ever liked such a horrible person so much.  Nashville:  Last week’s episode seemed to slow the pace down but I got in a bit of a twist over some trivial information.  If Scarlett’s blood type was AB there is no way that her mom could be O so she couldn’t have been a match for Deacon.  Didn’t these writers pass high school Biology?!?  (And yes, I realize how nerdy I sound getting all up in arms over a night time soap opera’s plot inconsistency with biology).
Yeah, I should probably give up TV.
Since it is “FAT” Tuesday, this was a good reminder that being thin doesn’t equal happy (or sad).  I sometimes forget that being a size 6 (oh how I want to be a size 6 again) isn’t a magic cure all.  Eating well and regular exercise help with my mood and I need to consider my health but the number on the scale (or on my dress tag) shouldn’t decide whether or not I’m happy.
Speaking of exercise and health, I set my UP band “sedentary timer” to 30 minutes during the 9am-5pm hours of the day.  If it goes off, I make myself do 25 burpees.  I hate burpees.  So I tend to keep a very close eye on the clock.  If it’s getting close – I get up and get a glass of water from the kitchen.  I’m drinking my water AND getting steps AND avoiding burpees.  It’s a giant win.
On a light-hearted note:  Cheese or Font?  It’s not quite as easy as one would suppose.
So…how’s your week?  Are you ready for winter to be over too?
