The most perfect 80’s song not written in the 80’s (another Friday favorite for the kiddos and I):
I don’t really have much to add to the conversation lately. My house is progressing on schedule (knock on all the available wood). Abram and Violet each had a bout of strep but are healthy now. My in-laws are the most gracious people on the face of the earth and I’ll never be able to say thank you enough for the generosity and kindness they’ve shown me.
Hope you all have a full and happy weekend! And please share any favorite listens lately! I’m always looking for fun things to find!
So, yesterday afternoon I was standing in my kitchen (after having sent a letter to the principal in order to stand up and speak up against something, despite knowing there will be ugly fall-out from my actions) telling myself to BREATHE, repeating to myself, over and over: “You’re fighting this fight for your children, you’re fighting this fight for your children…” when in popped your post, with the first song being Universal Soldier. (The lyrics are completely not in line with my situation, but still…it felt like perfectly-timed reinforcement 🙂 .) And I got a huge smile (and another boost to my belligerent “I will NOT be quiet!”) when I got to Lily Allen’s Fuck You. Thanks for sharing all these, Kate – I love hearing what others are listening to!
My favourites right now are a bit moody (big surprise) but the somewhat less-moody of the lot would be A Beginning Song (The Decemberists), In a World Possessed by the Human Mind (The Tragically Hip), Louisa (Lord Huron), Perfect Opening Line (The Frames), Politik (Coldplay).
I’m glad to hear all is well with you (well, minus the bouts of strep).
Some days you just need an anthem! I’m glad two of my favorites came in handy when you needed them. Hopefully, the fall out will not be as ugly as you expect but if it is, at least you know you’re doing what you feel needs to be done. I can’t wait to plug in some of your listens!
