Tuesday Things

Short and sweet (and late) this week because I’m sharing my work station. My co-worker likes to leave math worksheets all over the desk. (But also brings me Jolly Ranchers from time to time.)

Knitting: Zauberball socks.

Watching: I’m two episodes into Virgin Creek. It’s on Netflix and I think it’s kind of like a Hallmark movie in episode form? My brother is recommending It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and a good friend of mine sent a list of her favorite 80’s-90’s movies that I’m going to have to get started on.

Reading: I’ve read The Naturals (which is kind of like a YA version of Criminal Minds) and The Last Mrs. Parrish this week. I loathed The Last Mrs. Parrish. I’m so annoyed that I forced myself to finish.

Making: We ordered some fabric from our local quilt shop to make homemade masks. I hate sewing (but I like the ironing and cutting and prep stuff) so I told Jesse I’d get everything ready if he actually sewed them. We’ll see how it goes. The kids are also working on an art project and I can’t wait to show you once we’re done.

I hope you are healthy and safe. The weather here is really wonderful and I’m so grateful for that. What are you making, reading, watching? I’m DEFINITELY in the market for suggestions.

Tuesday Things

It’s Tuesday. My hands are chapped.

Knitting: I ripped out the socks AGAIN, but finally think I have them down and they’ll hopefully be done by the end of the week. Then I’m going to see if I can get pairs done for the kids’ Easter baskets. The sheep is on hold.

Watching: I started watching Better Things per Kari and Rita‘s recommendation but only got two episodes in before trying an episode of Atypical which just grabbed me. (Jesse is even watching it from time to time which is a sure signal that it’s good TV. He almost NEVER watches television.) I’m sure I’ll come back to it. We’ve also been doing random movie nights. Watched Big Hero 6 for probably the 1,598th time and I still love it.

Reading: I know I said Boys and Sex was on my list, but I needed something a little lighter. So I read Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert and Do You Mind if I Cancel? (Things that Still Annoy Me) by Gary Janetti. Next up is The Naturals by Jennifer Lynn Barnes which is Violet’s “Mom and Daughter” book club pick and I need to have that done by the end of this weekend.

Making: Brownies, elderberry syrup (because having some kitchen medicine around can’t hurt), beans and rice, sweet potato and black bean quesadillas, friendship bracelets, cards (my mom sent a kit she put together), and schedules that are promptly ignored. (Thankfully, we are currently on “spring break”.)

Listening to: The Sweetest Summer and Peaceful Guitar (slow and mellow set the tone for happy mornings), I usually find something poppier for the afternoon. Brené Brown’s new podcast is on my list.

I know I haven’t said much here about COVID-19. I don’t know if I will. It’s not that I don’t have feelings about it’s impact on my life, it’s just that…I don’t have much to say about them. I’m thankful every single day that we all remain healthy. I wish I had bought more hand cream and not just more soap.

So…what are you reading, watching, making, listening to, or whatever other -ing you feel like sharing?

Grand Caymen 2020

This week is chock full of reality: laundry, conferences, school work, basketball practice, snow. Last week we were visiting with Jesse’s parents in Grand Cayman.

We had many adventures. Violet and Abram tried scuba for the first time with Jesse; my FIL and I snorkeled above them. We swam on a moonless night in a bay filled with bioluminescent plankton. We snorkeled. We ate great food. I had a giant cockroach run over my foot at a restaurant during dinner. I didn’t take as many pictures as I could have because there were a great many times when I just didn’t feel like having my phone. And if you give me an opportunity to float in the ocean or stay on dry land and take pictures – I will most always choose the water.

Stayed: South Bay Beach Club
Memorable Eats: Sunshine Grill, Chicken Chicken, Grand Old House
Activities: Captain Marvin’s (snorkel), Ambassador’s Diving (scuba/snorkel), Cayman SeaElements (bioluminescence)

It wasn’t perfect but it was good.

And this is definitely Violet’s year of the peace sign.
